According to NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), Curiosity will be aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket this coming Saturday, November 2, 2011. The MSL spacecraft, as well as Curiosity, is sealed within the protective payload fairing atop the rocket, which is inside the Vertical Integration Facility at Space Launch Complex 41 at Florida’s Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
The new Mars rover, Curiosity, is the first Mars rover fueled by nuclear power. The nuclear-powered rover is outfitted with everything a geologist needs on a remote world. Curiosity is size of a small SUV, carries 10.6 pounds of plutonium-dioxide pellets. Curiosity’s system is designed extra-ordinarily to allow the rover to operate even with a little amount sunlight or the spacecraft's mission is so demanding that solar panels are impractical.
Curiosity is well-equipped for this mission, today, NASA’s most ambitious Mars exploration.
Curiosity is ready to roll-out, good luck Curiosity, good luck to mankind.
