Toyota Recalls Fortuner, Hilux and Innova Vehicles

Toyota Philippines announced on Thursday, April 10, 2014 that it is recalling around 50,000 Toyota vehicles due to a faulty spiral cable installed in steering wheel. Among the vehicles under the latest Toyota recall include Fortuner, Hilux and Innova models from 2004 to 2010.

The Toyota global recall program is reportedly having possible problems on the spiral cable installed in the steering wheel assembly. In the event of collision, the car air bag system a more likely to result in deployment failure.


Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation statement:


“Due to the shape and location of the spiral cable retainers, this may cause some connectivity loss related to the air bag system. In such case, the driver side air bag may not deploy in the event of a crash. There are, however, no incidents reported related to this condition.”
 

Of the total recalled vehicles, Toyota revealed that more than 50,000 units of Fortuner, Hilux and Innova vehicles sold in the Philippines. While 6.39 million vehicles involving 26 models around the globe.

Fortuner (2004-2010) - 2,659
Hilux (2004-2010) – 589
Innova (2004-2009) - 47,012


As stated by the automaker, the Toyota recall campaign will replace the spiral cable assembly free of charge.
